Our Story

Did you know? The 901 in our name comes from the Porsche’s original, 1964, model designation.

In 2020, after an early morning drive in his 1970 Porsche sports car, Victor W. von Buchstab realized he had a problem. And the idea that was to become MyRide901 was born.

Victor was hurriedly writing maintenance notes for his car — lovingly referred to as Elise— when he realized that these reminder notes and maintenance details were getting mixed up with the other service papers he had in his car and home.

It occurred to him that he was looking at a much larger problem: “What I needed was one, consolidated place on my phone where I could capture and organize all Elise’s maintenance information—not just the notes and photos; but the receipts from previous maintenance, the ownership history documents, the magazine reviews of my vehicle, and more.”

Additionally, he needed a way to share this information— with everyone from service technicians to potential car buyers.

Until now, his methods involved cutting-and-pasting the notes into an email, printing a physical version of the notes, and gathering up all the previous receipts and documentation he could find.

This method was disorganized and prone to losing or misplacing crucial documentation.

That’s when Victor realized he couldn’t be the only one facing the problems of capturing, managing, and sharing vehicle maintenance information. He knew there were others out there facing the same challenges.

And so, determined to make the world of vehicle information management a better place, he decided to follow in the footsteps of another founder, Dr. Ferdinand Porsche: “I couldn’t find the sportscar of my dreams, so I built it myself.”

With this wisdom in mind, Victor set out to build MyRide901.
